Education Deans

Education Deans

The Education Deans Committee of MASU consists of the deans of colleges of education and/or directors of teacher education programs at the public universities. These colleges and programs have a special relationship with the State of Michigan, as the state helps set curricula for teacher preparation programs through licensing regulations. These teacher education leaders thus represent the future of early childhood education, K-12 education, BK-12 special education, postsecondary educator preparation, as well as scholars focused on the discipline.

As with all MASU committees, during their convenings, members of the Education Deans Committee provide insight into the implications of current state and federal policy issues and fiscal dynamics affecting Michigan’s public universities. They engage in vital conversations on the teacher workforce, teacher preparation and pipeline initiatives, student literacy, and rigorous state regulation of the teaching profession, as well as the academic study of all levels of educator preparation and student outcomes. While the committee is new to MASU, it has met independently for years as the Michigan Public Education Deans (MPED) group.
