Business Affairs Officers

The MASU Business Affairs Officers (BAO) Committee consists of the chief business officers at Michigan’s public universities. These senior officers typically oversee the institutions’ financial, budgetary, capital construction, human resource, information technology, auxiliary enterprise, and administrative operations, among others. Through the MASU committee, the BAOs provide insight and serve as collaborators and liaisons on a variety of issues and opportunities that intersect with state government. The BAOs are especially attuned to fiscal matters that affect the public universities’ ability to effectively deliver on their missions.

As with all MASU committees, during their convenings, members of the BAO Committee provide insight on the implications of current state and federal policy issues and fiscal dynamics affecting Michigan’s public universities. Contemporary higher education topics and trends are examined through the lens of business affairs officers, with strategic consideration given to such factors as state and federal regulations (and their associated burdens), institutional cost containment, operating efficiencies, human resources, auxiliary enterprises, public-private partnerships, and continuous quality improvement.
